I tested the Autel MaxiSYS Ultra EV on a 2017 Tesla Model S 90D to see how practical its battery health test is in a real workshop. The MS909 EV / MS919 EV offers the same battery health test function, but this review is based on the Ultra EV.
Bottom line: The Blitz Test is quick and generates a useful battery health report. The main drawback is that Tesla vehicle selection and menu navigation take some trial and error the first time.
Real Workshop Experience
The physical setup was straightforward. I used the EVDiag Box with the included cable and connected it to the CAN port underneath the screen. A CAN-to-OBD adapter from another battery health testing setup also worked with the connection.
The software side took more figuring out. Automatic Tesla recognition did not work, so I switched to manual selection. One thing that caught me out was the region setting: North America only showed Model 3 options, while All Regions brought up the full model list, including the 2017 Model S 90D.
The working menu path was:
New Energy → Tesla → Stand-alone diagnostic → Manual Selection → All Regions → Model S 90D → 2017(H) → OK → HV(High Voltage) System Diagnostics → BMS
From there, I selected the Blitz Test, scanned the VIN, entered the odometer reading, and started the test. The report was generated surprisingly quickly.
What Stood Out in Use
- Quick test: The Blitz Test doesn’t take long once the BMS menu is reached.
- Useful BMS function: For a battery-health inspection, this was more relevant than running a general Tesla AutoScan.
- Useful report: The test produces a battery health report with multiple pieces of battery information.
- Software learning curve: The main trial and error was finding the correct Tesla model and BMS menu.
- Vehicle-specific experience: This test was performed on a 2017 Model S 90D, so the same workflow should not automatically be assumed for every Tesla model.
Strengths vs Limitations

My Take
On the 2017 Tesla Model S 90D tested, the Autel Ultra EV delivered a quick battery health report with relatively little work once the correct menu was found.
The main issue was the Tesla software navigation rather than the test itself. The Blitz Test itself was fast and practical for this particular vehicle.
