I needed to read the DME on a 2015 BMW 3 Series for the next programming step. I started with YANHUA MINI ACDP, but the read failed with “DME communication error.” I then switched to Autel MaxiIM IM608 II, repeated the job, and successfully read the DME data.
What Happened
The MINI ACDP could not complete the DME read.
The exact reason isn’t clear from this test. A communication failure can sometimes be related to the connection, communication method, module version, or software coverage.
I wouldn’t speculate about which one caused the issue here.
Rather than spend more time on the communication issue, I moved to the IM608 II and tried the same operation.
Same vehicle. Same DME. Different result.
The IM608 II successfully read the DME data, so I could move on to the programming work.
My Take
This wasn’t a planned head-to-head comparison. I simply needed the DME data to continue the job.
Still, the result was straightforward:
- YANHUA MINI ACDP: DME communication error
- Autel IM608 II: DME read successful
I can’t say the MINI ACDP will have the same issue on other BMW DMEs. This was only one test.
But based on this job, I’d reach for the IM608 II first.
In real workshop work, stable module communication keeps the job moving, and having more than one capable tool gives you another option when the first one doesn’t get the job done.
